What You Should Aim To Capture In Maternity Photos

Maternity photographsTaking beautiful baby bump photos that will captivate the family and become a beautiful memory for the parents is a talent. It’s important to remember that maternity photos help the family recollect the happy moments when they were expecting a baby in their lives. It’s a time of happy, yet anxious moments when the family prepares to welcome a tiny tot into their lives and homes.

Capture The Essence Of Your Beauty And Emotions

In a maternity photoshoot, the focus should remain on celebrating the myriad emotions of the mother. The glow on the expecting mother’s face needs to be captured in the form of maternity photographs. This is what makes the pregnancy period special and it needs to be cherished.

NYC based photographer Lola Melani shares some tips on how to improve maternity photographs in a recent article:

“I believe that the most important advice I can offer is to understand that the goal of your photography experience is to celebrate YOU, the miraculous life within you, and capture, in portraits, the essence of your beauty and emotions as you await the birth of the greatest gift you will ever receive.”

Aim To Shoot In Natural Lighting

Avoid shooting using flash and/or artificial lighting. Aim to take maternity photographs in natural lighting. Schedule the maternity photo sessions during early morning or evening hours, when the lighting is best. This will help you capture beautiful maternity photographs.

In a recent article on taking beautiful baby bump photos, Laura Stennett, a pro birth and maternity photographer in Anchorage, Alaska said:

“Nice, even, natural lighting is best,” Stennett advises. You can get this particular feel organically on cloudy days, during sunrise or sunset and indoors near windows, she explains. If you do choose to shoot your photos inside, “open up every shade in the house and turn off any artificial light,” she recommends.

If it’s a sunny day, you can take snaps when it becomes cloudy. This way, you’ll be able to capture stunning maternity photographs that will create a lifetime of happy memories for you.

Don’t hesitate when it comes to experimenting with angles or outfits, but ensure the comfort of the expecting mother. Take the effort to make her feel at ease and this comfort will reflect in the resulting photographs.
